Truth and Training Program

****

Praise the LORD! After a long time planning, preparation, training, and praying, the Awana Club of Gospel Chinese Christian Church had it's grand opening on Friday, October 23, 1998. There are currently 18 club leaders plus other church members supporting this club. The Awana Club has continued to meet every Friday night at the church's Game Circle since then.

What is the Awana Club?
Awana is an international, Bible-centered youth ministry providing local churches with weekly clubs and programs for pre-schoolers through high schoolers. Our goal is to reach boys and girls, and their families, with the gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him. The acronym Awana comes from the first letters of the phrase ˇ§approved workmen are not ashamedˇ¨ (2 Timothy 2:15).

What is Truth and Training program?
We want our Awana clubbers to know the truth of God's Word, and we want to train them to serve Him in their everyday lives.

Truth - We want the clubbers to know the truth ˇX what it means to trust Christ as their Savior. That's why the Start Zone explains salvation on a kid's first night in club.
We also want them to understand the truth ˇX the good things God has to say to us in His Word, the Bible. Thatˇ¦s why our handbooks emphasize memorizing Bible verses and then explain what those verses mean.

Train - We want clubbers to be trained to serve the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that once a child trusts Christ as Savior he or she can immediately begin serving the Lord. God's Word says: Even a child is known by his doings (Proverbs 20:11). Thatˇ¦s why our handbooks include requirements that focus on serving others.

We also want clubbers to know about people who have been trained to serve the Lord. Thatˇ¦s why we emphasize missions. Clubbers must learn about other countries and interview a missionary. Silver and Gold extra-credit requirements include reading books about missionaries.

How is the Awana's Friday night Meeting conducted?
Game Time:(30 minutes)
It's fun! Attracts a variety of children to Awana and keeps them coming back. Provides a fun time for clubbers, develops good sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and competition, and offers the benefits of exercise. Features fun games you won't find anywhere else.

Handbook Time:(30 minutes)
It's challenge! Awana strongly emphasizes memorizing and understanding Scripture. Psalm 119:11 says, "Thy [God's] Word [the Bible] have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee." Handbook Time provides an opportunity to challenge clubbers to accept Christ as their Savior and grow in His Word---particularly through Bible memorization.

Council Time:(30 minutes)
It's rewarding! John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth [trusts] in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Brings clubbers together to hear a Bible message. Announcements, singing, award presentations, and testimonies are important for promoting achievement. Give clubbers opportunities to give public speech in front of the audiences.

Awards:
Offers a unique award system that heightens enthusiasm and motivates clubbers to achieve. Various incentives reinforce good behavior, encourage future achievement, and create enthusiasm for learning.
